Recovering Text Messages

I was surprised to learn that texts and phone logs are not necked up to the cloud. Our daughter's phone isn't working right and we have an option to get a replacement. Anyone know if there's a way to restore texts to a new phone, even through a tech business that repairs phones?

Maybe try downloading texts from the phone to a computer then to the new phone. This is what google says:

Unfortunately, SMS backup isn't available in the Gabb app store. It's inexplicable to me that there's no way to backup / transfer texts.
