Why is Messenger duplicating group texts?

My daughter's phone started duplicating group text messages and photos. Her phone will show a system update "importing messages" which shows that messages are being downloaded. Once this is finished, her texts are doubled - even tripled.

1. Sync Messenger Settings on Gabb Phone 4 Pro
   1. Open Gabb Messenger on Gabb Phone 4 Pro
   2. Select Settings
   3. Select Troubleshooting
   4. Select Sync Settings
2. Reset Setting on Gabb Phone 4 Pro
   1. Open the Settings app on Gabb Phone 4 Pro 
   2. Scroll down to General management 
   3. Select Reset
   4. Select Reset all settings
3. Network Reset with Customer Support
