Using VLC app for movies

Is there a way to use the VLC app that is on the Gabb 4 Pro to watch movies on the phone? We tried connecting an external DVD drive to the phone via USB-C cable to either play or transfer the movie to the VLC app but can't seem to figure out how to do that. My daughter wanted to watch a movie in the car on her phone on a long road trip.

Hi @PTrain6,
Good question! After a quick Google search, this is what I found:
To download a movie to the VLC app on your phone, you can either copy the video URL and paste it into VLC to download it, or you can transfer the movie file from your phone's storage or another app to the VLC app's folder. Here's a breakdown of both methods:1. Downloading from a Video URL:
- Find the video URL: Locate the video you want to download and copy its URL.
- Open VLC and navigate to Downloads: Open the VLC app and tap the side menu, then tap the "Downloads" option.
- Paste the URL: Paste the video URL into the VLC URL bar and it will start downloading.
2. Transferring a File to VLC:
- Locate the movie file: Find the movie file on your phone's storage or in another app.
- Move or Copy to VLC:
- Using the Files App: If you have a Files app, you can move or copy the file directly to the VLC folder within the app.
- Sharing to VLC: If you don't have a Files app, you can share the file from another app and select "Save to Files" and then choose the VLC folder.
- VLC will recognize the file: Once the file is in the VLC folder, the app will automatically recognize it and it will be available for playback.
Additional Tips:
- Check VLC's storage permissions: Ensure VLC has the necessary permissions to access your phone's storage.
- Configure media library folders: You can configure which folders VLC uses to store media files in the app's settings.
- Rescan folders: If you've added new media, you may need to tell VLC to rescan the folders to recognize the new files.
Hope this helps!
